[TL;DR The internet is the greatest library in human history]
The Impact of the Internet
Whether the internet is good or bad is a controversial topic. I would personally say it is rather just a tool. A tool that amplifies ideas, more than ever before, and increases accessibility for virtue or evil.
Positive Amplification
Philosophers
Innovators
Activists
Neutral Amplification
Hobbyists
Nerds/Geeks
Entertainers
Negative Amplification
Trolls
Conspirators
Racists
Benefits
Mass proliferation/accessibility
Instantaneous communication
Rapid adoption & scaling
Pitfalls
Echo chamber effect
Disinformation/widespread & subliminal propaganda
Mass surveillance
Satellite Internet
Starlink
“Starlink is better than its satellite competition but not as fast as landline internet”
With time Starlink’s capability will only improve, especially when Starship is functional: which can carry and deploy the V2 Starlink satellites. These larger satellites can communicate among each other using lasers and enable higher bandwidth/connectivity.
Web Access/Freedom of Speech
Autodidactism
“Entrepreneur’s mind. Athlete’s Body. Artist’s Soul.”
- James Clear (author of Atomic Habits)
“Jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”
Nowadays virtually anyone has the ability to make millions online with no formal education. The plethora of resources is honestly overwhelming. Here are the most visited websites in the world.
Aside from this there are many small niche websites that may cater to your hobby, interests, aspirations, and more. Many examples come to mind like Grailed, Substack, Strava, iHerb, GitHub, ChatGPT, and Etsy.
I will write about cybersecurity, data ownership, and privacy rights in another post this year. I believe it is important to understand how to traverse the web just as you would not trek in the jungle with no equipment or preparation.
